Local heritage book of UnterwittstadtUnterwittstadt, was originally called Wittstadt and eventually split in Unter- and Oberwittstadt and was noted as early as 1265 in records. As its neighboring towns, it belonged to the territory of the Archdiocese of Mainz until 1802 and was part of the northest portion on Baden. It suffered greatly during the 30 years war due to disease and passing armies. It was traditionally a farming community. The town merged with other 5 other local towns into Ravenstein in 1971. As of 2021 there were 189 residents. The FamilienRegister is listed as covering dates from 1870 onward but contains lengthy notes and family summaries in the notes as far back as the 1500s. Scanned in 1975 by the Geenealogical Society of Salt Lake City in Freiburg. Sourced from familysearch.org and digitalized by hand into Ancestry.com in 2022-23. Approximately 158 spread pages featuring information on town families with details on marriage, parents, children, etc. Most names are anglicized for better or worse. Sorry if that is an issue for some but that was the direction given . I connected some common surname spellings where obvious but left most as is if unsure. |
