Local heritage book of Vogelsdorf

Vogelsdorf is located in the foothills of the Harz about 20 km northwest of Halberstadt between the Huy in the south and the Großer Bruch and the Heeseberg in the north. The B 244 federal road runs through the village.
Since April 2002, Vogelsdorf and ten other villages have formed the municipality of Huy.

According to tradition, King Henry I (the Fowler) was impressed by the abundance of birds in the area that he gave the settlement the name "Vogelsdorp".  The village was first mentioned in a document in 1138.
The church of St. Nicolai burnt down during the 30 Years' War. It was raised in 1717 and newly vaulted and painted in 1734.
 A preserved chair of the church lords from 1692, beautiful wall and ceiling paintings, and the Romanesque tower are monuments to the town’s long history.

The spelling of surnames changed repeatedly over time. For example, one man was born Johann Diederich, but in the death entry he is called Johann Dietrich. Other examples are Salomo - Salomon, Mertens - Märtens, Claus - Klaus. The spelling of first names can also sometimes be confusing, e.g. Cord, Curt, Curdt, Cordt or Kurt. This can sometimes be complicated.
This local family book is meant to be a research aid. It cannot be completed, as there are quite a few gaps in the church records. It is not a binding document. Work on the OFB Vogelsdorf continues. Gaps still need to be closed.
